PlannerMerchandising

Purpose of the role

To manage the merchandise planning function for a designated planning area.

Annual range conceptualization and budgeting

  • Effective and accurate conceptualization and budgeting of range by price and quantity
  • Review and analysis of following information as input into plan:

– historical data as input into product plan

– swot analysis of previous season (UDA)

– store plans, store performance and grading

– size curves, grids and buying plans/shopping lists

– target market

– trend analysis

– sales and profit margins and markdowns (moving average)

Season/quarterly/strategic plan design

  • Compile season/quarterly/strategic plan for presentation and approval at assortment stage
  • Translate product into figures and present these effectively and accurately
  • Create effective and balanced range with buyer adhering to seasonal plan and results of market analysis
  • Produce buying plans/shopping lists and comprehensive mar-down strategy

Store plans, size ratios, grids and inflow plan administration

  • Compile accurate store plan reflecting:
  • calculation of lost sales
  • listing and de-listing of products
  • range variety within sub-departments
  • analysis of season curve anomalies
  • Compile accurate size ratios and select appropriate styles for a store on sub-department or category level based on
  • Analysis of sales history (using size profiling module)
  • Analysis of season curve anomalies
  • Compile store grids and inflow plans based on:
  • Size ratio calculations
  • Store parameters and optimums
  • Inflows timed to improve stock turn without losing sales
  • Timing of variety within all stores balanced
  • Inflows of A-products timed to maintain forward cover parameters
  • Timing of inflows support themes/stories within and across departments

Buying plan implementation and management

  • Manage product life cycles through monitoring average sell-off. Per week
  • Manage adherence to buying plans and check validity of variances
  • Analyse product performance (incl. SWOT and range reviews) accurately to inform buying decisions, recommendations and strategic decision making
  • Attend supplier presentations to gather information / to enhance understanding of the bigger picture
  • Managed accurate stock levels through stock balancing, cancellations, and rolling stock
  • Compile weekly sales and stock re-forecasts based on current performance / fashion/ testing
  • Ensure timeous reaction to good/bad trends, sales and missed opportunities in order to maximize stock turn and profitability

 

Qualifications / Education

Relevant tertiary qualification

 

Experience

At least 2-3 years’ experience in retail head office environment in a planning function
